Water bottles: Check. Pre-ride coffee: Check. Tire pressure: Check. Tools, nutrition, phone: Check, Check, Check.
In Preparation
The trainer is put away, legs are primed, and the days are longer than the nights. It's once again time for more than just a lunch ride. More than an after work shake out. From dawn to dusk, an adventure into unexplored territory is ahead.
Warming Environment
The sun rises higher. Warmers and vests are shed as body temperature and air temperature both creep up.
Pedal stroke after pedal stroke. Mile after mile is left behind and a constant turning of the cranks propels across the landscape.
Mid-Day
ON TIME
Minutes turn to hours. Pavement turns to dirt. Flat roads to rolling hills.
Half the day is done and the sun is beating down. This is the reason for the ride. An adventure beyond local haunts. A way to experience nature at a pace slow enough to enjoy every passing landscape, but fast enough to traverse regions.
Fatigue
The farthest ride of the season is taking its toll. This is the moment where preparation and perseverance merge. Turning back isn't an option.
Resurgence
The day continues. Exhaustion remains but energy returns. The tank isn't empty yet.

Almost Home
What at one point seemed unreachable is around the next corner. Golden hour has arrived. As the sun sets and temperatures begin to abate, the mind wanders. Reflecting on today's accomplishment. Dreaming of what comes next.
