When Deanna Mayles entered the Pikes Peak APEX, a four-day mountain bike event, she showed up on flat pedals with little experience. She finished 10th and surprised the field full of seasoned veterans and herself. Two years later, the quality engineer at SRAM has her sights set on professional mtb racing, the Life Time Grand Prix, and outriding expectations.
Professional racing has a chance at making Deanna Mayles a household name, but it isn’t her chosen career. When she’s not churning out miles on her bike, she’s a reliability engineer at SRAM.
“Even though I have a career as an engineer at SRAM, I am a pro-level cyclist. Just because that’s not my full-time career doesn’t exclude me from performing at that level”
"A demanding season of endurance racing is ahead of me and I am excited to overcome boundaries and push myself further than I've previously imagined. With roots in mountain biking and a knack for ultra-endurance, the Leadville 100 is a top race on my calendar. "
After Deanna’s second-place finish at the Mountain Bike Marathon Nationals, she was a shoo-in for the Grand Prix. Now preparing mentally and physically, she’ll be going up against the best of the best at some of the most challenging races in the country.
